MUSIC, SONG & DANCE WORKSHOPS FOR 2013

 With workshops for all interests and standards from complete beginner to accomplished performer  Make this the year YOU learn something new and remember – entry to workshops is included in the Season Ticket or you can just buy individual tickets. Come and join in!

Progressive workshops take place over several days; see how much progress you make by the end of the week!  You can learn the ukulele, limber up with some Appalachian, English or Welsh Clogging, learn a Flat-footing routine, join the Festival Choir or be part of the English Dance Band.  Exclusive for 8 to 17 year olds,  Shooting Roots are on hand from Sunday to Friday, and Panic Circus are up at the campsite all week.   Then demonstrate your skills at the end of the week show.

Folk/Country/Social Dancing Workshops - every day

Location: Charles Dickens School

Contra - Longways dances in the American style, usually fast and done with a relaxed and smooth walk.

Playford  - 17th and 18th century English country dances, or modern dances in the old styles. Lots of formations and steps, musical styles and rhythms. Think Jane Austen!

Square- Four couples arranged in a square.  Square workshops usually mean American Square danced with a smooth, relaxed walk, but there will also be some English traditional squares, which are stepped. One of the oldest forms is the exciting Running Set, originating in the Appalachians 
  

Traditional Dances  - collected from English Villages: varied formations and steps plus modern community dances.

Callers; Cis Hinkle, Madeleine Smith, Andrew Swaine, John Sweeney, John Turner

 plus Tea Dances,  Evening Dances, a Playford Ball and some Callers workshops for all standards
