Elvis Fontenot and the Sugar Bees

Five piece Swamp'n'Roll band Elvis Fontenot were formed way back in the dim & distant past of 1992, when founder members Phil Butler and Nick Barber caught legendary UK band R Cajun & the Zydeco Brothers at a Xmas show at their local pub. Intrigued by a form of music they'd never experienced before, the duo started to search out and play cajun & zydeco bands and recordings.  Twenty-four years and 20-odd members later the band have gone on from strength to strength. Initially, their ambition was to play at the Wheatsheaf in Stoke-on-Trent....now they've played all over the UK and Europe and have played on three occasions across Louisiana and Texas to enthusiastic audiences, including twice at the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans. On their 2003 visit, they also discovered that their brand of music - a lively, visual take on cajun, zydeco, soul, blues and played with a ferocious energy - was best described as "Swamp'n'roll" - and that's how they've been describing themselves ever since.

Their first CD, "Dead Slow Please" - recorded in 2001, has been followed in 2005 by the recording of "Not necessarily in that order", then in 2013, their CD 'Three' was released. In 2006 and 2009 they were voted European Zydeco band of the year at the European Cajun and Zydeco Awards in Holland. Nick won European rub-board player of the year in 2009 and as the award has not run again, he's still the undefeated champion!

Expect an infectious good time!
