~~The Songs of Gregson & Collister revisited by Gregson & Simcock
From 1985 to 1992, Clive Gregson and Christine Collister were at the very top of the game in acoustic and roots music. They released five albums, played countless shows all over the world and made many, many friends along the way.
The All Music guide has this to say about them…
"Clive Gregson & Christine Collister were the most moving and memorable UK folk-rock duo to emerge since Richard & Linda Thompson. Gregson's wry tales of the ins and outs of love, sung in Collister's heartbreaking voice, earned the duo respect and a devoted following. In 1985 the two began performing as a duo on the folk club circuit. The duo's first release was a homemade tape sold at gigs, later released as Home and Away. It was followed by their first formal album, Mischief, in 1988 and by A Change in the Weather in 1990. Love is a Strange Hotel, released later the same year, was an album of cover versions of Gregson & Collister's favorite songs. In 1992 the two decided to go their separate ways after one parting shot, The Last Word and one final tour..."
Clive subsequently went on to establish himself as a solo artist and also to revive Any Trouble, his much loved early '80s rock band.
In early 2015, the respected reissue label Cherry Red, asked for permission to release a deluxe edition of the debut Gregson & Collister CD and fan’s favourite Home and Away. The 1986 album has been remastered from the original analogue tapes and with the addition of two bonus CDs of previously unreleased live recordings, from The Lesser Free Trade Hall shows on the final Gregson and Collister tour in 1992, this is a must-have collection.
Here's what Liz has to say...
"I've always been a huge fan of Gregson & Collister and couldn’t think of anything nicer to be invited to do. They were what got me into writing songs and I think it's a real privilege to be doing this."
For his part, Clive says...
"It seems like playing some shows that celebrate a hugely enjoyable part of my musical career is long overdue. It's been a very long time since I performed a lot of those songs... and I can't think of anybody better to have along for the ride than Liz. She's a terrific singer and an ideal fellow traveler. I'm really looking forward to the tour and I'm sure the audiences are in for a real treat..
