Pip Ives was born in Hastings in 1987, into a family of musicians and Morris Dancers. At eight years old he took up the Anglo concertina and at ten, the melodeon. Since then his musical career has taken him in many different directions and led him to study Folk music at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2006.
Having graduated from University in the summer of 2010, Pip can be seen performing at many festivals, in pub sessions and at Folk clubs throughout this country and abroad. He is an experienced melodeon and mandolin player, as well as a traditional folk singer and has already worked with many ceilidh bands and folk musicians young and old! Pip can teach melodeon, anglo concertina, mandolin, tenor banjo as well as Morris and rapper sword dancing.
Pip is now living back in the South East of England, and is available for bookings at Folk Clubs, Festivals , Pub gigs and ceilidhs either on his own or with the Watergrain Band. When he’s not away playing at a festival, ceilidh, or working for Hobgoblin Music he can be found playing in one of the many sessions across Kent and Sussex and enjoying a sneaky pint or two.
Pip is often joined by wife Jo on flute to play mostly English and Irish tunes with a few tunes from other European countries thrown into the mix for fun. Jo's beautiful harmonies compliment Pip's driving melodeon playing.
