Young Folk from very young to almost grown-up are well-catered for both at the Folk Week campsite and around the town. Folk Week is a family event and we want to encourage children and young people to get involved. The Bandstand of course is the focus for free family events that all generations and especially the under 10s can join in with at the morning Hobby Horse Club. Around the town you’ll find a magical morris mermaid, a teeny tiny puppet theatre, Bobo the Magic Bird, Mr Trix’s Magic Show, the daily Family Ceilidh, string games and Pete Coe’s Children’s concert. For those aged under 21 – there are the informal music jam sessions at the Festival campsite – turn up with your instrument and have a blast – or strum – or whistle – or beat a drum.
Step up and play
Every day is a day of dance, music and song at Folk Week – but these are especially for young people to get right into festival life – and dance their socks off, sing their hearts out and play like nobody’s listening!
All of the days take place in the welcoming Baptist Centre which has its own lovely café – so a chance to have a cup of tea while the young’uns have fun. Ages 7 – 15 . No experience necessary just come and have a good time. Parents of children younger than 10 are encouraged to stay to ensure their children are comfortable and can get some additional help if needed.
