Pub gigs in Broadstairs Folk Week are hugely popular. Apart from the obvious attraction that they are free to festival goers, many people who come to the town relish the opportunities to see bands from all over the country – and beyond – performing a lot of their own original material and featuring a huge range of styles.
A quick look at last year’s Souvenir programme sees the genres of pub bands covering traditional English, Irish and Scottish folk music; old-time, bluegrass,Americana, Cajun, zydeco, celtic, east European, Spanish jazz and country – and 2018 will doubtless have the same range of styles, bands, duos and solo artists.
Thank you to all of the pubs that choose to feature the official Broadstairs Folk Week rosta of guest bands. All the bands and pubs have their own section detailed in the festival’s Souvenir programme and these bands can truly say that they have been booked to play at Broadstairs Folk Week.
There are playalong and singalong sessions too – just pitch up and join in.
Folk Week likes to spread the word on new and upcoming acts – and it really does happen that a musician’s first appearance can be at a free pub gig – and in future years can be found performing on the main concert stage.
Whatever happens, all musicians make a huge contribution to the festival whatever platform they appear on – and we look forward to welcoming old friends, new discoveries and having a very, very good time in 2018. Watch this space!
