Khiyo is a British Bangladeshi band that gives Bengali music a fresh London sound. The band was formed as a collaboration between vocalist Sohini Alam and composer Oliver Weeks, music directors of the 2018 award-winning documentary Rising Silence. Khiyo’s sound mixes expressive interpretations of Bengali classics with dynamic and original new music that draws on South Asian and Western folk and classical traditions, rock, blues, and jazz. Since a headlining appearance at the Purcell Room at Alchemy 2013, Khiyo has developed a reputation as a powerful live band. The self-titled debut album was released by ARC Music in 2015, receiving excellent reviews and featured as one of Songlines magazine’s ‘Top of the World’ albums that year.
