Come and dip your toe into our Social Dance programme, with a fun introduction to some of the dance styles you can try this week! Fun and friendly caller Jemima Swain will have you skipping, galloping and dosido-ing in no time, whether you’re a seasoned folk dancer or brand new.
This workshop will include a mixture of Jemima’s favourite social dances, from the historical (English Country Dance and Playford – think Jane Austen!) to the raucous (modern ceilidh dancing) and the satisfyingly smooth (American Contra).
No experience necessary, and you can turn up with or without a partner.
Caller Jemima Swain – Jemima has been folk dancing for most of her life, and started calling at The Round Country Dance Club in Cambridge. She calls regularly at local folk clubs, private ceilidhs, and for dances in Cambridge and beyond. You can expect a joyful mix of ceilidh, Playford, English country dances, and the occasional contra, called with energy and enthusiasm!
The Tin Box Ceilidh Band hail from East Anglia, Middlesex and Wessex, offering a wealth of experience and a unique sense of fun. Presenting a cornucopian range of semi-acoustic instrumentation across a broad range of musical styles, your hearing buds will be fully stimulated. Their Caller, Martin, has decades of experience, also working with bands like Shave The Monkey, Candleford and Random.
