Olivia Dame Campbell and The Songs of Appalachia – workshop and talk

August 12 AT 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

£4.00 – £8.00

with Alex Cumming and Audrey Jaber

Not only was Olive Dame Campbell the founder of the John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina, she was also an incredibly influential folk song collector! In the early 1900s after years of collecting, she introduced Cecil Sharp to folk song in Appalachia via her collections whilst he was visiting Massachusetts. Using published books such as English Folk Songs from the Southern Appalachians and archives from the Folk School, Library of Congress and more, we will explore her legacy and song collections.
