BBC Folk Award-winning singer and guitarist Sam Carter is one of contemporary folk’s brightest talents. Hailed by Jon Boden (Bellowhead) as “the finest English-style fingerpicking guitarist of his generation,” Sam first immersed himself in the recordings of Nic Jones as a young musician. Sam’s rendition of Canadee-i-o drew over 115,000 YouTube views and earned him an invitation to perform alongside Nic at Sidmouth Folk Festival in 2010 — Nic’s first public performance in 28 years. Sam has also recorded Nic’s Ruins By The Shore and was chosen as Nic’s guitar double in the BBC4 documentary The Enigma of Nic Jones. Nic Jones himself remains a towering figure of the English folk revival. His emotive singing and groundbreaking guitar style have inspired generations of musicians and listeners. His masterpiece Penguin Eggs continues to be celebrated more than forty years on, despite Nic’s career being tragically cut short by a car accident in 1982. This is a rare chance to hear songs from the back catalogue of one of folk music’s most influential voices, faithfully recreated by a performer who truly understands and honours the genius of Nic Jones.
