Edith WeUtonga

Edith WeUtonga is a trailblazing Zimbabwean bassist, singer, and songwriter, known for her dynamic fusion of traditional sounds and global influences. Leading her band Utonga since 2010, she debuted with the acclaimed album UTONGA, which propelled her into national prominence. Her music blends Jiti, Chimurenga, and Shona folk with Rhumba, Reggae, Calypso, and Jazz, creating a rich, contemporary African sound.

Edith has headlined Zimbabwe’s top festivals, including INTWASA Festival koBulawayo, Women in Jazz, Harvest Festival, and the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA), where she has collaborated with African legends like the late Oliver Mtukudzi and Ismael Lo, as well as international acts such as Publish the Quest.

She has been twice nominated for Best Female Musician at the National Arts Merit Awards and the Zimbabwe Music Awards. In 2018, she won Best Alternative Act at the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAAs).

Her international footprint includes performances in India, Norway, South Africa, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, and the DRC, solidifying her as one of Zimbabwe’s most compelling musical exports.
